The International Tennis Federation released the entry list for tennis at the Paris Olympics on Thursday, which included Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray, as well as Daniil Medvedev, who will compete as a neutral athlete rather than representing Russia due to the country’s ongoing war in Ukraine. Djokovic (Serbia) and Murray (Britain) are both 37, while Nadal (Spain) is 38, and all have several Grand Slam championships. Djokovic has 24 major titles, a men’s record, but has yet to win an Olympic gold medal.
Nadal, who has 22 men’s Grand Slam titles, won singles gold in 2008 and doubles in 2016. He missed Wimbledon, which is currently underway, to prepare for the Olympics. Murray has won three major championships and is the only tennis player to win consecutive gold medals at the Summer Games. He has stated that he intends to retire following the Paris Olympics, which will feature tennis contests on the clay courts at Roland Garros, the venue of the French Open, where Nadal has won 14 times. The top three ladies on the entry list are Iga Swiatek (Poland), Coco Gauff (United States), and Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan). No. 3 Aryna Sabalenka chose not to compete in the Olympics; her country, Belarus, helped Russia in its invasion of Ukraine, therefore she would have competed as a neutral athlete, like Medvedev.
Swiatek has won five Grand Slam titles, including the French Open in four of the last five years, while Gauff and Rybakina have each won one major. Gauff was named to the US team for the Tokyo Games three years ago, but she was unable to attend due to a COVID-19 positive test.
There are 64-player draws for women’s and men’s singles, as well as 32 teams in women’s and men’s doubles. The 16 entrants for mixed doubles will be chosen on July 24. The bracket draw will take place in Paris on July 25. Also read: Ken Rosewall Net Worth 2024, Annual Income, Endorsements, Cars, Houses, Properties, Charities, Etc.
