Magdalena Frech beats Gadecki to win first WTA title

Magdalena Frech won her maiden WTA title at the Guadalajara Open on Sunday, defeating qualifier Olivia Gadecki 7-6(5), 6-4. Frech became the fourth Polish woman to win a singles title this century, behind Magda Linette, Agnieszka Radwanska, and current world number one Iga Swiatek.

Magdalena Frech reached her first WTA singles final in Prague last July, but the Guadalajara Open was her first WTA 500 final and on hard courts. Also read: Felix Auger-Aliassime Net Worth 2024, Prize Money, Endorsements, Cars, Houses, Properties, Charities Etc.

Gadecki arrived in Mexico with only two career wins over top-100 players, but she won four this week, including a second-round victory over world No. 11 Danielle Collins.

The 22-year-old Australian, ranked 152nd, came up just short of being the first qualifier to win a WTA 500 singles championship since Liudmila Samsonova did so in Berlin in 2021. Also read: Who Is Mirjam Bjorklund Boyfriend? Know All About Denis Shapovalov

The competition was held at the Complejo Panamericano de Tenis in Guadalajara.
