Australian tennis star Alex de Minaur capped a remarkable season by clinching the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) Grand Final in London on Sunday. Over 21,000 fans watched the world No. 9 dismantle Holger Rune in a commanding 14-8, 14-11, 16-10 victory at the Copper Box Arena.
Alex De Minaur, who swept through the round-robin stage and defeated Gael Monfils in the semifinals, showcased his adaptability to the innovative format. UTS rules feature eight-minute quarters, single serves, and strategic “bonus cards” to boost scores. This victory marks de Minaur’s second UTS title after finishing runner-up to Andrey Rublev in Oslo earlier this year. Also read: Italy to host Davis Cup Final 8 from 2025
The Aussie’s triumph in London secured him a $421,800 prize and a $375,000 bonus for participating in three of four UTS events this season.
It concludes a career-best year for de Minaur, who achieved three Grand Slam quarterfinals, earned his first victory over a world No. 1 (Novak Djokovic), and reached the ATP Finals for the first time, despite battling a hip injury.
De Minaur plans to enjoy a festive season in London with girlfriend Katie Boulter before returning to Australia. “It’s been my best season yet, but I’m focused on being even better in 2025,” he said, emphasizing his hunger for continued improvement.
