Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic knocks out Coco Gauff of the United States at the Qatar Open in Doha. The Czech tennis player pulled off an upset in the second-round after beating the world no. 3.
Siniakova is ranked 42nd in the official WTA rankings as of February 2024. At this tour, Katerina came from Round of 64 after defeating Donna Vekic of Croatia, whereas Coco was already seeded in the round of 32.
The Czech player dominated the first set of the match with a 6-2 victory. In the second set, she was down 0-4 and made a comeback from there to clinch the match. The match between Katerina Siniakova and Coco Gauff lasted for about 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Katerina will face world no. 63 Danielle Collins is the round-of-16 fixture. This would be a great matchup, as both players are in good form and want to achieve victory. Siniakova beat Collins from a set down in 2019 in Toronto, but Collins recently avenged that loss in last year’s Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
Katerina said “Definitely another tough match, she is a really aggressive player.”, “I will try to focus on my game and fight every point, and hopefully it will be a really good game.”
Collins has reached the round-of-16 after defeating players like Kimberly Birrell, Laura Siegemund, Veronika Kudermetova, and Marie Bouzkova.
