Elina Svitolina tennis season is ended, the Ukrainian announced on Wednesday, following surgery on her right foot to resolve a long-standing injury. Elina Svitolina returned from maternity leave last year with a bang, reaching the Wimbledon semifinals, but she admitted she struggled with the ailment throughout the 2024 season.
“So unfortunately, my 2024 season is now in the books, as I had surgery on my foot today to correct a long-standing issue that I have been trying to manage all year,” Svitolina wrote on Instagram, accompanied by a portrait of herself in a hospital bed. “It’s become harder to manage and has been impacting me more and more, not just with regard to tennis and training but in my everyday life too.”

Coco Gauff, 17, knocked out Svitolina, 30, in the third round of the US Open, her last match of the year. Svitolina announced plans to return to the court in 2025.
