Jack Draper, the top-seeded British player and U.S. Open semifinalist, defeated No. 2 seed Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets to earn a trip to the Japan Open quarterfinals.
Hurkacz and Jack Draper, both 22 years old, were tied on aces and winners, but it was Hurkacz’s 30 unintentional faults compared to Draper’s 20 that proved costly. Draper prevailed 6-2, 6-4. Also read: Davis Cup Final: Italy to face Argentina
Draper had now triumphed three times this season against opponents ranked in the top ten.
Additionally eliminated from the competition are third-seeded Casper Ruud and top-seeded Taylor Fritz. In the quarterfinals, Draper will now take on the victor of Brandon Nakashima vs. Ugo Humbert.
