Jack Draper retires from Japan Open quarterfinal

Due to an abdominal ailment, Jack Draper, the top-ranked man in the United Kingdom, had to withdraw from his Japan Open quarterfinal match against Ugo Humbert of France on Sunday.

After an incredible journey to the US Open semifinals this summer, the world No. 1 Jannik Sinner defeated the British player in straight sets during a match that lasted little more than three hours. In the second set, the heat and humidity in Flushing Meadows overcame Draper so much that he puked three times.

After defeating No. 2 seed Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets on Friday, Draper had guaranteed his spot in the quarterfinals on Sunday. This season, it was his third victory over a rival ranked in the top ten. Tomas Machac and Humbert will square off in the semifinal.
