Top-seeded Jannik Sinner pulled out of the Madrid Open on Wednesday due to a hip ailment. Sinner overcame Karen Khachanov in the fourth round on Tuesday and is set to meet Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
“Very sad to have to withdraw from my next match here in Madrid,” the world’s number two wrote on social media. “My hip has been troubling me this week and is gradually becoming more uncomfortable. Jannik Sinner, 22, was due to compete in Rome before the French Open, which begins later this month. The Australian Open champion is 28-2 this season and was making his third appearance in Madrid.
