Novak Djokovic Reveals Why He Chose Andy Murray as His New Coach

For Novak Djokovic, it was an easy choice to hire Andy Murray as his coach. The Serbian, who had been without a coach for six months, gave an explanation of his decision to play in Juan Martín del Potro’s final match while on a vacation to Argentina. Last week, Murray and Djokovic declared their intention to collaborate for the January Australian Open.

“Since I was very young, I have played against him… and there are not many people who have won multiple Grand Slam titles,” Novak Djokovic stated in Spanish during a press conference prior to her match against Del Potro.

No other tennis player in history has held the top spot for longer weeks than Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion. In addition to winning two Olympic singles gold medals and three major trophies, Murray topped the ATP rankings at the end of 2016. Born one week apart in May 1987, both men are 37 years old. They first faced one another as juniors and ultimately met 36 times as professionals, with Djokovic winning 25–11.

Djokovic, who is presently ranked seventh in the ATP rankings, adding, “He knows my game and everything that I have been through very well.” “He knows the things that are wrong with my game, all of my mistakes.” Following his breakup with Goran Ivanisevic in March, Djokovic has been without a permanent coach.

“We played against each other in the biggest stages of our sport, but in the end, our friendship was bigger than the rivalry,” added Djokovic. Also read: Tomas Machac tops Carlos Alcaraz in Shanghai Quarterfinals
