Veronika Kudermetova clinched her second career title with an impressive win at the Toray Pan Pacific Open. The tournament victory underscored her growing prowess in the world of women’s tennis. Veronika Kudermetova defeated Jessica Pegula, the second-seeded player, 7-5, 6-1 on Sunday to win the Toray Pan Pacific Open and add a second championship to her resume. Since winning her first clay-court championship at Charlestown in 2021, the Russian has lost four consecutive final matches before her victory in Tokyo. She had previously defeated Iga Swiatek, who was rated second, in the quarterfinals. This was also her second victory this week over a top-five opponent. “I’m really happy because before, it was not an easy time for me, it was really tough moments,” said Kudermetova, who will next compete at the China Open. “Now I’m really happy and I have a lot of motivation for the next weeks.”

Kudermetova got off to a quick start on Sunday, winning 10 of a row to build a 3-0 lead.

Sebastian Korda, the fifth-seeded player in the Astana Open, defeated top-seeded Tallon Griekspoor 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to go to the semifinals. In the semifinals, the American will face Hamad Medjedovic, a wild card. Earlier, the 20-year-old Serbian defeated Jiri Lehecka, the fourth-seeded player, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to his second career semifinal. Sixth-seeded Adrian Mannarino defeated qualifier Jurij Rodionov 6-1, 7-6 (6) to advance to the finals, where he will face Sebastian Ofner, who defeated Dominic Thiem of Austria 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 on Monday.
