A low-ranked American tennis player Casey Kania who played for the North Carolina University has been punished for two years. After testing positive for marijuana at an ATP Challenger tournament, the International Tennis Integrity Agency stated on Tuesday.
The ITIA stated that Casey Kania’s in-competition urine test detected cannabis in August 2023 at Cary, North Carolina, when he lost in the doubles quarterfinals. According to the ATP database, he is 21 years old and has a career-high doubles ranking of 1,317th, as well as $482 in career tennis earnings. Kania won an at-large bid to the NCAA doubles final as a sophomore at UNC last year. But was eliminated in the round of 32, according to the college team’s website. Also read: Katerina Siniakova Net Worth 2024, Annual Income, Endorsements, Cars, Houses, Properties, Charities, Etc.
All of his ranking points and prize money were gained at the lower-tier tournament in Cary. Everything he accumulated there must now be forfeited, the ITIA stated.
Kania was unable to demonstrate that he was not at blame for the infringement. Nonetheless, the agency accepted that the player “did not intentionally breach the provisions” of the sport’s anti-doping programme. That was the cause for the two-year ban, according to the ITIA; a willful violation results in a four-year suspension.
Kania’s period of ineligibility began on February 2, when the ITIA published its ruling, and will end on February 1, 2026. His Cary event results, prize money, and ranking points, as well as any subsequent tournaments, are all forfeited. During a suspension of this nature, a player is prohibited from participating in or visiting any tennis event sanctioned by the ATP men’s professional tour, the WTA women’s tour, the International Tennis Federation, or the organisations that operate the four Grand Slam tournaments.
