The mixed doubles team of Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale defeated En-shuo Liang and Tsung-hao Huang of Chinese Taipei in the final to win gold on Saturday at the Asian Games. Rutuja Bhosale and Rohan Bopanna pull off an incredible comeback to win the mixed doubles gold at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou. In this Asiad, the duo gave India their eighth gold medal.
With this triumph, India has now won at least one gold medal at every Asian Games this century, an incredible feat.
Rohan Bopanna, who earlier won the men’s doubles gold in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games, is especially deserving of this gold medal. Additionally, it acts as atonement for his surprising elimination from the men’s doubles competition earlier in this year’s Games, when he and partner Yuki Bhambri were the favourites to take home the gold. It’s a great accomplishment for Rutuja Bhosale to win her first medal in the Asian Games as she competes in her first continental sporting event. Also read: Who Is Daniil Medvedev Coach? Undeterred, they rallied magnificently in the second set, grabbing a crucial break, with Rutuja’s net skills coming to the forefront.
